friend used HP system restore, is there a relatively cheap way of getting back his data?

turn off computer. take the drive out and put it in another machine as a secondary drive and use one of the unerase products to get the data back.
I will post the program I use when I get back to my utility computer.

The most important thing he can do right now is turn off the pc, don't even boot it until he removes the drive. Then use a drive recovery program. There are a bunch out there.

I had a client where somebody pushed the "Restore this PC" hotkey on an HP desktop. I knew what had happened because that PC had XP PROFESSIONAL installed and, all of a sudden, it had XP HOME on it, which is how it came from the factory.

Anyway, in this case the XP Home restoration left all the data intact. Don't ask me why/how.

thanks drebo, you saved me from hooking up and booting my recovery computer. That was the one I used.
