It may not be stated explicitly, but if he decides to leaves at noon and see 2 patients a day, his ass is on the grass. Realistically, the hospital controls his patient population and has it set at the point where they can make money.

He's home at 2 most days and sometimes only has 2-3 people in the office on office days. When he operates he's home by 3. Been this way for 30 years.

Averages 30-40 cases a month. Prob 2x that in patient visits

Well, after practicing for so long I hope he became good at it.

<Thank you for reading today's corny joke>

sometimes i regret not studying medicine

and then i remember how disgusting the human body is, and i snap out of it pretty quickly

after seeing how much my dad worked as a doctor, that was the reason i had absolutely no interest in becoming a doctor.

Tell your "doctor friend" that he should pursue a career in pharmaceutical chemistry. Hell, you could probably even hook him up with a few potential clients!

Me too, coming from a family that used to be doctors in their country. But I ended up being pushed by them to take all the classes in undergrad all at once and I didn't like that because it was tough instead of spreading them out.

So because I lived with IT people and am actually good with computers and software I decided for that instead. They were pissed but I didn't really feel like staying up all night studying for exams for days on end. Where now it seems like doctors in my area are burned out, they see you for two seconds...make a quick judgement and then send me on my way.

Only to return a week later in a worse condition.

He could make a lucrative business out of writing medical marijuana prescriptions for one of the dispensaries!
Around here, those cost about $100 each...:D

He's about 40 years old and was a doctor at one of the hospitals connected with Columbia. He got sick of dealing with the insurance companies. He's been complaining that the rates are going down and the amount of people he has to see is increasing. So he just quit.

How Being a Doctor Became the Most Miserable Profession
Nine of 10 doctors discourage others from joining the profession, and 300 physicians commit suicide every year. When did it get this bad?

By the end of this year, it’s estimated that 300 physicians will commit suicide. While depression amongst physicians is not new—a few years back, it was named the second-most suicidal occupation—the level of sheer unhappiness amongst physicians is on the rise.

Seems reasonable to me.

I wouldn't want to work in the American Health Care Industry either...
