My point is that many alcoholics think that drinking beer is okay. That they aren't alcoholics if they just drink beer and lay off the hard liquor. Just like people think that they're no longer a drug addict if they can just quit everything else and just smoke pot. You're still psychologically addicted and no better off than if you were still smoking crack. Drugs are still in control of your life. You aren't.

Then by your logic she should stop smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee or taking advil?
If she can quit coke and GHB, she can quit smoking weed if she wants to.

edit:
My only question is if she actualy quits doing all those other drugs. If she really quits and still smokes weed, the weed should be the least of her problems.

i would much rather be a pothead than a crackhead

the behavior of a crackhead and the behavior of a pothead are waaaaaaaaaay different

and being "dependent" on drugs is different than using them recreationally

If she wants to be perfectly "clean", yes.
I'm a heavy smoker and I drink a lot of caffeine. I'm addicted to both. Both do, to an extent, control my life and actions. If I don't have my cigarette and coffee in the morning, my coworkers and soldiers know it. I know it.

I've smoked plenty of pot, done enough speed, angel dust and hits of acid. I've also taken plenty of course and seminars in drug addiction after I cleaned up. I'm not some goodie two shoes that comes trolling into a thread to just base my opinions off of what I've read and never experienced.

Ok, that makes sense, but, why does she need to be completely clean? If she manages to kick the coke and G cold then good for her. If she still smokes weed then I don't see what the problem is, unless it starts interfering with her life. I'm not really sure if zap gave enough info here, because when he said that she would still smoke weed, does he mean that she will smoke 10 times a day or a couple times a week? If she smokes 10 times a day there might be a problem, but if she is smoking weed occasionaly, then it's probably not much of a problem. The only thing is if she actualy manages to quit the coke and G cold.

In my experiences, though, I have yet to see an addict quit the "hard drugs" and not have the same problems with pot. She's basically running away from her problems, using drugs as her vehicle. To drop down to just pot, I guarantee you she will be stoned most of the day and also going for the "laced" pot. She quits the hard stuff and she's still gonna be looking for that "vehicle" to escape life in.

shrooms and lsd aren't going to hurt her by themselves. but if she's taking crap like coke, chances are she's not using a safe dealer.

the studies that show withdrawl symptoms from lab rats pump so much dope into them it's not even funny. no one would ever smoke that much. marijuana can be psychologically addicting, but so can the internet. the thing about dope is even if it had the potential to be addicting, it's presence in your body decreases so gradually it's like you're automatically weaned. the downside is you're still a little stupid two days later. ;)

the problem isn't a physical addiciton but a mental one. marijuana is an escapist drug, you use it to get away from your problems, and that can be tough to kick. and in this case, she needs to kick it so she can deal with her problems.

millenium, i don't get how your personal experience with pills has anything to do with marijuana addiciton. for one thing, how can you single marijuana out among all the crap you were taking? and you mention yourself you were taking it to get "f|cked up," rather than feed a physical urge.

edit: realized much of the above has already been said in one form or another.
