Friend keeps geting IMed by porn bots...

On AIM, a friend of mine just said that they have been geting a crapload of IM's from porn bots it looks like. Anyone know what would cause these? Spyware? If anyone has any ideas, thanks and if this is in the wrong place place lock it up. Thanks
 
I had that option where im's would be transferred to my cell phone as a text. You don't know how annoying it is when you can't click on the link. 😉

Thats wierd, because I have yet to get one, EVER. Would the verison on AIM have anything to do with it?
 
i get them every so often. freakin annoying.... if you warn make sure its anonymous....


i stopped using that aim name and used my alternate for a while figuring the spam bots would remove the name...

the msgs def slowed down after that.
 
I always arn anonomously and then block the user, but since the spammer's s/n is different everytime it doesnt really help.

It started for me about 2 months ago and I have version 5.2.3277 of AIM.
 
i think the main problem is that these msg's are coming from the ICQ network...

ever since cross compatability has been implemented this is starting more so....

I havn't gotte a random porn IM in along time I usta get alteast 2 aday hmm wonder why. Actually now that I think of it I havn't gotten one since I moved off camps and off the college network and to an ISP.
 
I posted about this earlier. I get about 10 a day, and I have NOT been to any un-appropriate websites. It really sucks because I am a Network Admin at a church, I go in every morning and find like 5-10 on my computer. It is getting really old.
 
I have never gotten them until recently. Its pretty annoying to come back to the computer and your Away messages are 80% of this junk.

Just got another one a few mins ago while I was logged into GAIM.
