Anyone know anything about this place? His mission is apparently to "keep the villages stable".

He has no idea what this means exactly..but was wondering if anyone knew more about this place. There's no civil wars or anything going on is there?

I used to have a penpal from that country.

She stopped writing me about 3 years ago. She was a real nice person, too. I wonder what happened to her?

From what I have heard, just like every other poor country. The cities are all nice and modern, but one step towards the rural areas and everything is back to the stone age. Don't know anything about the political climate there though.

Damn, lucky bastard -- I want to deploy. Check out the CIA World Factbook for some information on Kazakhstan. I met a girl in South Korea who was from there -- gorgeous!

Kazakhastan is home to one of the new american foward bases in central asia. the russians don't like it, but what can they do?

Kazakhastan is rich in natural gas and oil, but is land-locked. The afghan conflict made it possible to export the gas and oil via afghanistan and pakistan, bypassing Iran.

It is run by a dictator who oppresses his own people. The national parliament is quite feisty. A lot of Russians are leaving the country because they have to choose which country they want to be a citizen of: Kazakhastan or Russia.

Kazakhastan is also home to the remnants of the Soviet Union's vast nuclear, chemical, and biological stockpile. These are being cleaned up with the help of american dollars.
