So, one of my best friends has been dating this girl since just after he met her in college. She is also one of my good friends, we love to double date and go out together. I started noticing her behavior changeing and decided to talk to my friend about it. I know all the tells a drug users inadvertantly displays and was fairly sure she was using cocaine more and more regularly. (She admit to having used it in the past.) I encouraged him to talk to her about this before her behavior becomes destructive. She constantly resisted talking about it, and we never really got anywhere helping her. The other night she broke down and told us the truth, she has cancer and just heard from the doctor that they don't expect her to live past July. It was a devastating night for all of us. Just 20 years old, so fully of life and energy, and just a few more months of life to enjoy. I don't believe in God one bit, but I've been praying for this girl who doesn't deserve to die so early into her life. I don't know really what else to say, I'm still trying to take all this in myself. Just thought I'd share with all the good folks of ATOT as a reminder of how precious life is and that you should never take anything you have for granted.

That must be very distressing news to hear. What kind of cancer is she suffering from?

I think its rather selfish of her to keep that to herself, although I understand her intentions. Best of luck to her.

She told me, but it isn't something I am farmiliar with. Some sort of cancer involving her Lymph nodes. Lymphoma, I believe. It spread to her neck, which is highly fatal.

Think about it. If that were you, your best option may be to just life as regularly as you can for the last months of your life. It is easier to ignore things we fear then to confront them.

EDIT: It's such a shame it wasn't caught sooner, the survival rates for both Hodgkin's and non, and pretty good (relative) with the best treatments.

I believe all prays fall on deaf ears. But, I don't know that for certain. Given that, there is no harm in trying. That, and a situation like this is so extreme you feel like doing anything you can in the time you have.

Always tragic for someone to go so young...but at least there is still a little time for some partying

She sure did love to party. But, I think it was just so that she could escape the reality of her situation by getting drunk or using drugs. I think we are going to spend the next few months hiking, bike riding, and camping... rather then getting drunk all the time.

just be there for her to make sure she's happy...

Good advice.

Help find a better treatment for cancer simply by installing a free program and letting it run. This will make a difference (in more then just cancer)!

I've been folding for as long as I have been enthused with computers. So, quite some time now! A worthwhile project, I hope something comes of it.

it's so sad when things like this happen. just try and be there for her as best as you can and make sure her last days are truly happy days.

No it's not. In the toughest of times, you may finally find God, and he will hear your prayers.

:( so sad

p.s. you said you don't believe in God one bit so don't pray. you're only seeking God's help when you're in need . That's not what religion is about :disgust:
