Friend Got Original Playstation From Europe, now problem!

My friend brought his son a Playstation (Playstation 1, but it's the newer one) back from Portugal. He has bought power adapters for it, but when he goes to use it, he says it's "Really dark, it's got no colour. It's black and white".

Anyone have any ideas? Would the Playstations be different? Or is it because he's using a game from Portugal?

My friends son is just DYING to play the Playstation, but he can't because it doesn't work. Help the little guy out!

I imagine its using a different video standard. Read up on pal vs ntsc

Yup i was right I think portugal uses PAL

Does Portugal use the same NTSC standard that North American TVs do? If not, this could cause some video problems. I'm not sure about Portugal, but much of Europe uses PAL.

might be the connection that your little buddy has onto the TV.... you should check the Composite connection that'll fix ya right up Good luck, hope your little buddy has a fun time w/ the PSOne

US tv's cant play PAL format natively.. however they play SECAM in B&W.. its possible its SECAM format.
