what he wrote:

My account was emptied of all it's money, and then some. I deposited a $500 check yesterday, went in to see how much I had after that, and yeah, it's already gone. All of it.

And there isn't anything I can do about it. The backdraft fees have been reversed or something, so I don't have to pay anymore, which is good, because as of now, I have about $3 in change, in my car, which will be illegal to drive in a week.

Perfect timing, too, with college text books, car insurance/payments, and my cell phone bill all next week.

I'm so screwed.

=(

---------

This happened to one of my best friends about two months ago, so I was informed of all the possible ways that this could have happened.

It's so easy for someone to do, too. They just have to get your account information, which can be as easy as leaving your card open for a tip at a restraunt, which I do aaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllll the time. That's how I think someone got my info, thus, all my money.

But I have the best friends in the world. My friends have already offered to pay for my books, help out with insurance, and Aracely, the chick who got her account emptied plus about $300 worth of draftback fees bought me a carton of ciggarettes. They are definitely the best.

------

Anyways, everyone has been really, really helpful. My insurance agent is trying his ass off to get me to a better insurance company, but that's a long story that includes sr-22's and this and that. But yeah, basically, the $323 that's supposedly due next week might possibly turn into about $250 that's due on the 23rd of every month. I'm praying that that goes through.

But yeah, my bank didn't really take notice of anything I guess. I bank with Compass, but that might change as of tomorrow once I have to get a new account... I just hope it never happens again.

I believe he should have like 60 days to put a claim with his bank to get his money back. He's not entirely SOL.

i checked as much info i could find on the bank's website, they don't really say anything.

i'll tell him though and see if maybe they're just not telling him something, but that seems sorta...unlikely?

my fiancee got her wallet stolen in Vegas a few days back. First thing she did was call Washington Mutual and put a fraud alert on it. Also called the credit company cause her SSN was on her health insurance card. This stuff is nothing to mess with.

i had a similar problem. someone got a hold of my debit card number and went buck wild with it. all i did was call wells fargo and they put a hold on my account, opened me another one with my money back in it and they took care of the rest. your buddy should call his bank, they are usually pretty helpful when it comes to this kind of stuff.
