He msg me today asking for my address, then of course I had to ask why? He said he got a job offer from NSA and was filling out security forms that required him to list all foreign nationals he is in contact with.
He needed my name, address, status... all of this shit, like employer name and address .
I just told him to put down student, because I don't want to give out all that information.
Prolly next thing I know, guys in suits knocking on my door after dinner ...lol
Security is good, but this isn't the warmest feeling.

Depending on what job he is getting he might need a secret or TS clerance.

TS goes back 10years and yes they will either call or come see you to verfy what he said. If anything he says does not match up then he has problems. Majority of the time it is not what you did that will lose the clerance but if you lie or something you say on the paper work does not match up.

So tell him to be honest as if something doe snot match then he will have issues.

<-- Works for state and has TS

Everything I told him was correct. Why would they contact me? what if I don't want to talk to them ? I am just curious...

If you don;t talk then they will look at him a lot closer and maybe you as well. Worse case they think something is up and it will hold up his clerance or he will not get it.

So if oyu want to help then just answer their basic questions.

You will get a visit because they will want to ask you questions about him. They are investigating him but in the process they find out if he is friends with any shady characters.

I am never home so it will take them a few tries :)

I got my SCI last fall. I went through the hell of an SSBI. Plus somewhere along the line they got the mistaken impression that I had a hardcore drug problem (I did not), so I got the super-polygraph, 8 hours strapped to the chair telling some guy in a suit EVERYTHING you've ever done wrong or considered doing wrong. Awesome.

Trust me, worse for your friend than you.

Don't worry about it, they are not out to get you. They are going to be talking to a lot of people going back to the guys childhood and upbringing. As stated earlier, if you where a friend to the guy, just answer the questions truthfully and all will be good.

They'll want to know how a college student is able to buy a condo in Casablanca sight unseen and who you're harboring there.

They only asked to list foreign friends, and their nationality. Since I am Arabic and Muslim they will most likely investigate more.

I wish I could have seen my room-mate's face when I called him told him the FBI was coming to the house that afternoon. I was getting clearance with the FBI for my job at the time which among many things, required an interview at my house with one of their agents. Lets just say we had a 420 friendly house. Ended up not being that big a deal as we had just cleaned anyway.

i interviewed w/ the NSA and they needed all that information before I even got an interview (was for an internship, so maybe thats why). The process was ridiculous. I failed the polygraph when I went in for the interview (they asked me to come back to take it again, but i had another offer by that point)

I had Confidential and then Secret, then Top Secret clearance back in 1996-2000.

Not a big deal.
They just check your background.
Make sure you haven't killed off someone and assumed their identity type of thing.

Now if the men in black would just STOP following me !

SSBI/SCI clearance does not require a polygraph. Certain agencies require a poly, however.

I don't think anyone I know got a phone call for my Secret clearance.

In fact, I don't think they checked anything on the application.
