Was going 70 in a 60.

Does insurance go up for them, me, or both?

Does anybody know how many points will be on the record?

oh, i was under the impression you were going to court already... personally I would, depending on traffic and such, that's a ridiculous ticket. I am not sure of the margin of error of radar guns used, but I know that is probably pretty close...

Is it the first offense?

If you, go to court and try to get it knocked down to a non-moving violation, or take defensive driving and it may go away.

The margin can be extremely wide depending on when they were calibrated, and how well they were calibrated.

However, the 5mph cushion is usually for this.

I actually called our insurance company about this very issue. My parents have Hartford AARP and I'm still on their policy. If I get a speeding ticket there is a surcharge added to the account. If I then leave the account and get my own insurance I must mail a copy of the new insurance proof to Hartford AARP and they will remove the surcharge from my parents' account.

He goes to court, asks to go to driving school to get it whiped off the record.

MOST judges will allow you to go to school over a rare ticket to keep it off your record.

Heh. I like how the title refers to your "friend" and the OP refers to "them, me, or both." :p

Title says "Friend gets speeding ticket" but your post asks if YOUR insurance will go up. Hmm....

Yeah seriously.

Go to court, talk with the judge/prosecutor, they'll probably knock it down. Worked for me when I was a dumb@ss a few years ago.

I got a 62 in a 40(which was more like 55, but still definatly going too fast). Went to court(No option to pay, cop was a real d*ck about it, said I should be thankful for not arresting me and towing my car because he doesn't know how to read a speedometer). Talked with the prosecutor, went to traffic school ($170ish IIRC) for a day, and it never hit my record. My original charge on the ticket was some low felony or some such. I've mended my ways since then, I rarely do more than 5 over on the surface, and stick to a solid 65 on the freeways(even if it's a 55).

dude, tell her to fight that shyt. cops shouldn't really give you a ticket for that (depends on your state). the state doesn't like taking people to court for anything at or under 10mph over the speed limit because it's just a huge pain in the ass.

Be careful. Some insurance companies will require that you put an uninsured driver (your gf) on the policy after such an incident.

You shouldn't have let her behind the wheel at all.
