Friend claims any sleep before midnight is worth "double," true?

I read a pamphlet around heres somewhere that says normal people generally experience a dip in their hormone levels related to circadian rhythms around 8pm that lasts until approximately 12. (People gave them out in Wash Sq Park a few years ago).

I imagine that if you fall asleep during this dip, it's probably easier to enter REM sleep which means you likely get more REM sleep or finish the usual amount of REM sleep earlier. I highly doubt that it accounts for such a massive increase in sleep value though. Plus I tend to take things I read in pamphlets with a grain of salt. They're usually marketing devices or tilted anywho.

probably not, but the 'before midnight' stuff is definitely bull. What about if you're up nights regularly? It might be better to say, waking up early is better than going to sleep late, if you need the extra time for some reason.

I'm pretty smart, and I like you, so we can consider each other friends. I claim that for every $100 you send me via paypal you will receive $1,000 in return from an unnamed source and earn karma points toward earning your way into heaven. You may feel free to send money in blocs of more than $100, at your discretion.

after 90 days, right?

This theory has some merit - albeit as a rule of thumb more than a hard and fast scientific fact.

With electric lighting making it easy to stay up past sundown, people routinely operate outside of an optimal circadean rhythm - going to bed when it is dark and waking up with the sun...

Going to bed early puts your body more in harmony with where it would like to be and your rest is more productive.

I assume that's what she meant. This pretty smart friend is probably smarter than anybody that's posted in this thread (including me). And she in fact does know the difference between your and you're.

A pretty smart friend of mine claims that every hour you sleep before midnight is worth 2 hours of sleep after midnight (within reason I assume. Not sleeping at 8 and waking up at midnight).

ie, if you slept at 10 and woke up at 4, you'd feel like you got 8 hours of sleep, as much as if you slept from 2 to 10.

Is this crazy talk?
You're friend is a moron.

nono, that's my brother. 'Crazy Talk'

Is he the one with the fireworks stand?

admit it, it's not your friend, it's you.

anyway, i do feel a difference in energy level if i sleep 11-7 rather than 2-10. it makes sense not to fight against your bio clock, but i don't think it doubles the efficiency of sleep.
