This is his first PC, and he wants me to suggest on what to buy. I've told him that for beginner it would be wise to get a $350 pc like e-machince, HP, etc..and since he doesn't play games, But he insisted on wanting a better pc around $800-900 range.

Anyone know any hot deals?

He doesn't play games? Heretic. If he's interested, ask him to build one for that price and *learn* as opposed to getting an oem'd pc and mushingup his brain.

wow! thanks alot for the link Penguin. The Dell Dimension 9100 is such a good deal at $679 with FREE 19" LCD? too bad it's expired today, i couldn't get to him in time.

any more links like this?

Man, just have him build his own. It'll cost him SOO much less, unless of course, he WANTS to pay hundreds of dollars to see "Dell" all over his computer.

building and buying isn't that much of a difference, probably like $200 less or so compare to buying. when you real look for hot deals like the Dell Dimension 9100 the price difference aren't that much apart, and the Dell 9100 even come with a free 19" LCD monitor.

The price difference is huge, meaning, you could use that extra 200$ for more performace. Seriously, anyone who doesn't want to save money is more or less stupid.

Why not build your own? -,-

I will be building my own PC in the future very soon, but i dont have the capacity to do so right now. Well what do you think of the Dell demension 9100 for $679:
NEW Dual-Core Capable Dimension 9100 with 3.0Ghz Pentium 4 630 HT,
512MB Dual Channel DDR2,
128MB ATI Radeon X300 SE PCIe x16,
40GB S-ATA,
48x CD-Rom Drive,
7.1 Audio
FREE 19" LCD!

Can you build one with the same specs, same price?

I don't really agree with that.

If you can find a good deal on a dell and don't need a great gaming system, they can really be a good option. Even if you do game, sometimes it's a good deal to get a dell and slap a new videocard in it.

It would probably cost around $450 to put together just the computer portion of it with similar specs. If the monitor is a nice one, I'd say that's a nice deal as long as shipping costs and tax don't kill the deal.

EDIT: oh, and he gets a legit copy of XP installed and when he fvcks it up, he calls Dell and not you 😛
