My father gave one to his father last year. I played with it last time I visited. Yes, not bad for its size, but still way over priced! You can get as good if not better quality by hooking up a set of Boston BA790 speakers to a Discman with CD/Mp3/FM/AM capabilities.

I realize there's a hate for Bose and while I'm not a Bose owner I still don't get it. Then again, I've only seen a few Bose products. My neighbor has a Bose surround sound system that cost $1000 and the lcd screen failed after a year. He's had a variety of problems with it, and it really doesn't sound that great...but i can't base my opinion on one thing.

I have yet to see a bose system with true low frequency extension (20 to 30 Hz at decent db level)... the highs are okay but I prefer seperate tweater/midrange designs with a large midrage for a lower sattelite / sub crossover frequency. This is with regard to Bose home theater systems. They are small, and sound good for their size, but play them side by side to a "real" home theater system and they sound as tiny as they look...

Eek. Yesterday i walked into the Bose store at Cabazon outlet and guess what i saw. "Spatial imaging speakers" for FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. What are these "spatial imaging speakers," you ask? A freakin' generic 2.1 speaker system, that's what! I can't believe they're charging 500 for those pos speakers. And the triports, blech, not even going to go there.

And Bose /= EVIL, they equal to SUCK.

I checked out the Bose store in the Mall of America - I have to admit, I was *very* impressed by their home theatre demonstration system. Sounded crystal clear, with nice strong lows. But I haven't seen/heard any other hi-fi home theater systems, so I have nothing to compare to. However, hopefully in a year or so I'll be making some nice money & I'll be in the market for a home theater system, so I might have to start a new thread asking for suggestions ;)

its like designer clothing, u don't get all that much for what you pay:) but then again if you've got moolah who gives a f*ck!

it is sleeker then buying a cd/fm/mp3 discman for 99bux and hooking up a z540? 99bux?.

but really, nothing beats my 2000 dollar alarm clock:)

i use my pc hehe

either use taskmanager to open an mp3, or download a freeware alarmclock. i can't ignore blaring klipsch in my ears, i can however sleep through my bedside alarm easy.
not so good if you run a loud @ss pc though.

Well next time you go into that bose showroom, ask them if they'll include what's in the "control room", which is supposedly $30k worth of commercial audio equipment (amps, recievers, etc) which make the speakers sound so nice

Bose stuff has sounded pretty good to me, esp. for their size. I can see why some people would get them because they are inconspicuous, but they are pretty expensive.

Three or four years ago I got invited to a Bose Wave Radio demonstration. I couldn't believe the sound from such a small box. Then when they priced it @ $369 I thought that was even more unbelievable. Nothing but a table-top radio with remote control for $369! NO THANKS.

OMFG what an idiot paying $500 for that. I haven't heard them. I presume they sound very good for their size but no way in the name of God is that worth $500!

yeah i think you're about right. the acoustimass bass modules usually pack either one or two 5" speakers, and even with the fancy porting, they just can't go low enough. i get plenty of volume and thump out of my Bose system, but there are certain CD's I have where the bass notes drop below range and it sounds funny. I just ordered one of those Sony subwoofers from the Hot Deals section, so that should fix that. :) It'll be interesting, I'll have two black bricks under the furniture instead of one.

Bose is like Monster Cable: Great product but way overpriced, you can have the same end result for less.

No it's not. BOSE uses crappy, outdated components, similar or identical to those you would find in 50-dollar speakers in Wal-Mart. Do a search in Google - plenty of people have opened up their BOASE speakers, and to their amazement, saw that they're built with the cheapest parts imaginable.
