Fried Video card??

i took the side off my tower when the computer was running, i didnt touch Anything inside the tower, but the computer made a squeal and froze up, i restarted and it wont boot up in windows, i went safe mode no prob, removed the video drivers, now it boots normally. but everything is 4 bit color and 64x480.

DXDIAG wont pic up the dac type or model type or manufacturer or anything of the video card.

any way of knowing if i ruined my video card?

i reinstaled drivers for video card, and it goes back to the same problem, the monitor light just goes off the second i try to load up windows normally with new drivers...

From what you have said, it seems like a driver issue to me. Are you using the latest drivers from the website, or the cd that came with the card?

latest drivers, when I install them, and reboot, i get the exact same problem as when i restarted the computer after the crash...., the second the windows exp splash screen comes up, the computer freezes, and the monitor goes black with the light blinking... (power save mode if theres no signal coming in)

It did boot up after the crash for about 15 seconds, half the icons were missing, but the names were there, chunks of the picture was missing, some distorted pixleated parts of the screen etc....

Personally, I've never seen a fried card "half" boot with drivers, and then boot normally in safe mode. In my experience it's been an all or nothing deal. Do you have an old video card lying around you could test?

Oh, and recheck your connections.
