Fried processor

So, I changed my heatsink to an MCX462 and used Arctic Silver II thermal paste. When I reassembled everything, I turned on the computer and it worked fine for about 1 minute then the whole thing shut down on its own. The first thing I did when I turned on the computer was go into the BIOS and check the CPU temp (which was right around 41 C, normal). But about 2 seconds later the bios locked up and the computer shut itself down. Now, when I turn it on, the screen remains blank (meaning NOTHING happens). I have checked the video connection and it is fine. So my question is, is my motherboard f'ed up or is my CPU fried?

Do a smell test around the processor, maybe the ram, or the motherboard chipset... if anything smells like burnt cheese than something definitely fried..
