Last night I was using my computer just like any other night, aside from the fact that the power supply fan suddenly decided to sound like a chain saw. Seconds later, the computer shut off, and wouldn't turn back on. The problem was the power supply, which now made an entertaining sizzling sound when I tried to turn it back on.
I tested another power supply in my computer that was only rated at 200W where the one that died was a 300W. The result was that all the fans in the computer would spin but it would not POST or send any video signal to the monitor. I only had this PS hooked to the motherboard also, no drives or other case fans were hooked up. Is 200W not enough to power my K7VZA motherboard with 1.2GHz Athlon even to make it POST? Or is it possible that when the first 300W power supply fried, it also fried the motherboard and/or processor?
Also, I must buy a new power supply. I'm looking at cheap, yet reliable models. Is this decent, or should I throw the extra money at a nice Enermax or better model? http://store.yahoo.com/amamax/powlp6100e50.html
Thanks in advance.
