Fried Monitor?

Dell Dimension 2400, about three years old, 15" flat panel monitor. Seems to have up and died. No display, just a constant flashing on the screen. The power button doesn't work, either. Tired shutting everything down for a few minutes and then rebooting, but no change.
Is this baby toast? Or is there any thing I can try to fix this sucker before I go buy a new monitor. By the way, with PC prices these days, might I be better off finding a sale at Dell on a new system, or should I just scout the market for a middle of the road monitor?
Thank you.

maybe try replacing the backlight/inverter? there are tutorials online on how. not sure if thats the problem, but 3 years is about the time they crap out
