fried memory or motherboard??

i'm in the process of rebuilding my computer.

got to the point of the the motherboard posting, entering bios, configuring...

noticed that 128k of my 768k memory wasn't being recognized so... i powered down, then reseated the memory and while i was at it swapped the sticks around. now my computer doesn't even post. no nothing. can't ctrl-alt-del like previously. no video. i'm thinking that i inadvertantly fried my memory. does this sound like the correct diagnosis??? also thinking maybe messed my motherboard up. mobo is brand new.

Edit your post and add in the specs-what kind (brand model) of mobo and ram. Perhaps someone can help then.
