hello all,

have a major issue with the hdd on my inspiron 300m. its been years and i tried to format the drive with the windows xp cd, i booted the computer off the disk and formated. the problem is that windows was unable to format the drive since it claims the hdd is damaged. I also ran the dell diagnostic program and got the following error code:

error code: 0f00:0244 AND 0F00:1A44
msg: block 9271659 (note: mulitiple block are damaged)
uncorrecyable data error or media is write potected

so now what?

can i fix it with another program, is there one out there?(if there is a program is it free)
or
is the hdd fried and i need a new one?

thanks in advance

From what I know you can use a software called "HDD Regenerator" ...You get a free DOS version of it in the Hiren BOOT CD....It will most probably work 🙂 Give it a try!!

It sounds like you may have a bad sector, in your boot sector (which is really more than one sector, nowadays). Try doing a low-level format on it, then an immediate Scan Disk, if you're using Windows 98/xx, or "check for errors", with the "scan for bad sectors" option, if you're using Windows XP.
