Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried green tomatoes are great. We have tried them, after seeing the movie, many years ago.

What I am wondering, though, is if these would sell very well at a fair. I know there are stands that sell fries, curly fries, corn dogs, etc. Some places have fried Zuchini.

I'm thinking of getting a cooking trailer, but offering fried green tomatoes, okra, eggplant, and mushrooms, as well as the zuchini, dogs, fries, etc.

Think it's viable?

I Love 'em!
They are best when picked just as they are starting to ripen, sliced thick, and pan fried. Breaded or not, both ways are delicious.
As for selling them at fairs and such, I think you may sell some South of the Mason - Dixon line, but it would be more of a curiousity in the North, of course, anyone trying them will be back, it's just getting them to try them first.

They're all over Georgia. I get them quite a lot at even the really nice restaurants in Atlanta. As a snack, I love fried green tomatoes/zucchini with a little ranch. Not exactly a health food, but it can be quite good.

FGTs are not usual part of North Carolina's state fair because the best tomatoes have been already picked two months ago. Tomatoes now arte mostly the mealy ones you buy in the grocery store. I have two plants that are producing becusae I planted late in the year and have them in containers and not the ground. They'll probably yield about 25 good sized toms in a few more weeks.

For fair food, the ones that sell fried catfish and BBQ are doing really well.

Best use of fried green tomatoes ever:

Godzilla meets Fried Green Tomatoes @ Jacque Imo's. A tower of fried green tomatoes topped with a fried giant softshell crab playing the part of Godzilla, smothered in a creamy remoulade sauce.

Probably would do good. Here at the state fair in kentucky, you can get fried green tomatoes at one cart, maybe two. They also throw in fried mushrooms, okra, etc. much like you said. I'd probably toss cheesesticks in as well, and figure on having a horseradish sauce and marinara.

Try to figure out a mix where you can share your condiments across different products, with dogs you'll have to get mustard too, but its considered a meal and not a side.

If you sell fried green tomatoes, definitely sell fried zucchinni too (for some reason my family loved those)

I hate both of them though 🙁

Use Chinese eggplant instead of Italian as it is too bitter. Fried Artichoke hearts are killer too. You want to work on some sauces too to sell the deal. A ranch, a spicy french/ranch thing, maybe bleu cheese. Think like the Bloomin' Onion sauce at Outback. Hey, Onion petals would work too.

BTW, some Wal-Marts carry pre-breaded green tomatoes in the veggie freezer. The work pretty good.

edit - And I think you could get some traffic here in Georgia at the fairs. Especially with okra and tomatoes. I know I would be torn with mushrooms, tomatoes, and okra.

Maybe if you cook to order. they're best right after cooking...

QFT!
My wife has a bad habit of cooking them earlier in the day, then warming them up at dinner time.
Ugh, soggy!
