This had me almost laughing out loud at work:

"I'm pretty geeked for Saturday's MLS all-star game. I can't wait to see some of my favorite players get after it; players like the "guy with the long ponytail", the 'guy with one name and of course, the guy who falls on the ground and screams'. These guys are the best. And just out of curiosity, whose mom is driving them to the game in her mini van? And are they all going to kill orange slices and Capri-sun at half time of the game? As for predictions, Clint Chastidonnaham is going to score the games' only goal and get the nod for MVP. Oh, and one more thing. Don't you need all-stars to have an all-star game? "

It's scary that I know the name of one MLS player - Freddy Adu.

But that's because he's 16 and the highest paid player in the league.

Ya, that's the funniest bit "guy with the long ponytail", the 'guy with one name and of course, the guy who falls on the ground and screams'" --- the majority of the American public does not really know any of their names nor really cares to know their names, like "guy with long red gaotee"

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. I think the only reason America isn't into it, is because they get their sh*t handed to them in soccer. I hope one day we become good at soccer and everyone bandwagons along and I can be one of those arrogant pricks who says, "I was into back in the day, when it was nothing." God I hate bandwagoners, almost as much as know-it-all douches like Jim Rome.

i think we hate soccer because it's boring as hell. Just like hockey. And you can bring up baseball if you want, but most Americans find that boring now too so that's of no relevance.

I'm not a fan, but how the hell can you find hockey boring? It's easily one of the most exciting team sports around.

I agree. Hockey is very exciting once you figure out the rules...although it's gone down over the past couple of years due to the nuetral zone trap and all the grabbing that goes on. I also agree that soccer is boring as hell. I mean, there are what, 22 guys on the field and you end up with scores like 1 to nil after like 90 minutes? How friggin boring. No wonder they go nuts when they finally score.

"guy with long red gaotee"
Alexi Lalas.....he doesn't play MLS anymore.

Yeah, the MLS needs to work on their image and, frankly, I think America pretty much doesn't wanna start having to watch yet another sport. The MLS is pretty weak when compared to South American/European leagues.....but I went to a Rapids game this summer and it was alot of fun.

One of soccer's problems is that it needs to be a game you grow up with. The reason I don't find it boring is because I understand what's going on strategy-wise, I can relate to the physicalities, and I can apppreciate the "build-ups"; those sudden break aways and close-call shots that almost score. I know lots of soccer fans (myself included) that put as much importance on the quality of the play as on the score....which is yet another area the MLS is behind (but improving).

it could be because the world takes a badass ass kicking ass mangling death dealing name like football and applies it to a limp wristed pansy sport. football isn't played by a bunch of girls kicking a ball around, football is played by men who want to hurt each other.

that's why we hate "soccer".

and jim rome will kill you and eat your soul.

Rome is ok, but it kills me that he picks on soccer as much as he does but he talks about Golf as if it was god's gift to sport's fans, and he does some serious A-kissing when he has golfers on his show....and his obsession with making fun of the WNBA is getting old too

No, I've seen the women's team play, and they are good. But we're talking about real sports here, so......half the population is left out of this topic.

Jim Rome is the greatest thing on the radio! Did you happen to catch his take on Nadje Davenport last week? About waking up and finding a Green Bay Packer growing a tail in your closet? It was the funniest thing I've ever heard! It was hysterical!

Anyone who thinks watching soccer is boring just doesn't get it. If you have no appraciation of ANY game you are going to find it boring. Baseball is a great example. If you don't understand the game, it's just a bunch of guys standing in a field waiting for someone to hit the ball to them... If you have developed an appreciation of pitching strategy and the manager's job, it suddenly becomes a fabulous sport you can watch for hours on end...

Oh, and Jime Rome is a fatuous ass...
