Fresh Windows 7 Install with out losing some of my Files/Programs

Hi guys!

Being a while since I being around the Forums here. I want to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer (Personal Reasons).

I was wondering. I want Everything gone! except for a few files/programs that I have. Including some pictures, music, and some other applications.

I do not have DVD's right now, and I don't have enough CD's to burn all my important files. I have 2 USB's which I have already packed full of some the stuff I want to save, so that's not an option, and I do not have any External HDD (Might look into buying one in the future now that I consider this)

Please excuse my levels of expertise (noob), because I know there has to be a way, some type of trick where I can save selected "Things" On my computer so that when I do the fresh Windows 7 install those "Specific things" will not be erased when I re-install the OS. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I do appreciate any help regarding this.

Thanks guys.

EDIT: I have made a partition with Sufficient space. I am transferring the files now. (The beauty of 1TB)

When I am ready to I insert the Windows 7 disk in order to Install the Fresh OS, what do I need to do in order to make sure everything gets deleted, except my new partition with the files I want to save?

Thanks good sir.

When you install windows.it will ask you to choose the partition to install window on.you take the partition.I guest the bigger on.you format then install.Just make sure you don't delete or format the partition you save your stuff on.

Welcome back EpicSurvivor. Some good info from denis280. Now would also be a good time to think about a backup routine. You are going to have all your data on a separate partition, which will be great for the re-install, but will be of no help if you hard drive dies.

There are several ways to do this. IMO, the easiest way is to buy a decent sized hard drive (internal or external) and put a copy of everything you put on your new partition onto the new drive. Then disconnect the drive and put it somewhere safe. Get it out whenever you have accumulated a decent amount of additional data you want to protect.

Good luck with your reinstall. Let us know how it goes.
