Was George Lopez show full of jokes about mexican ppl? Did they have accents like this? I hope they lose their accents.

I grew up around a ton of Mexicans, The George Lopez show played to every stereotype. It's a fucking funny show and they still show it on Nick at Night. George was involved in the writing though, so it didn't feel like it was made by a room full of clueless Caucasian people who knew nothing about the Mexican culture. It sounds like it's totally the opposite for this new show though.

Yes, it is still on the air. The main actor really drives me nuts -- he has this weird voice that always sounds like he is whining.

With that said, I have a feeling this show just won't be very good. It won't show the marginalization of Asians and how even being foreign isn't cared about. Just a chance to make stereotype jokes about "ancient Chinese secrets" isn't good enough. We (as a society) know what it's like to be marginalized as a black through music. Asians have no outlet for that kind of treatment and are too white to receive anything for it anyway.

I don't think there is enough of an Indian population in the US to care about that one. Plus it was about the thing that we all hate, the stupid Indian telephone operators when we call .

My idea was to do a sitcom about disgruntled fans of canceled TV shows like Firefly. I'd imagine it being something like the Big Bang Theory, except all of the characters would be more like Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

It might be even more fun to make this a reality show, and have them all get together at a show called FireflyCon in costumes or something

At a minimum, this would be an awesome documentary for Netflix.

I think that's part of the humor, you're a FOB to everyone even if you were born in Stillwater, OK...because that's the experience for every american born asian.

A part of me is glad this isn't the case.

That premise would be so tiredsome and predictable. It would be just like Coming to America.

This show peppers in plenty of that already (i.e. bringing chinese food to lunch).

I wouldn't disagree.

I look at my company (mega pharma industry leader)- as soon as C-level executive goes, 0 Asians. You don't even have to go that far up, just from Senior Managers, 0 Asians. Maybe a couple at best.

Same goes for my wife's former company (PwC, big 4 auditing firm).

Even in a world with zero racism, it's faulty logic to assume powerful positions would match demographics. Power isn't derived demographically, it's dynastic. My lily white family descended from northern European stock doesn't know anybody rich and powerful, and so I have exactly the same opportunity to become a CEO as an Asian person does. That's not due to racism, that's due to money and connections. There is no bamboo ceiling. There's a green ceiling. A wealthy, powerful person who came to the US from India or China could easily become a CEO in the US.
