fresh install of XP but mouse keeps freezing

This system was working perfectly for two years. Never a problem. I got a new HD and decided it was time to reinstall XP. I've done it many times, so no big deal. Problem is that the system freezes on and off. So, I thought maybe a problem with the install, so I formatted again, and reinstalled XP. It doesn't freeze the system now, but the mouse freezes after about an hour or so.

I've updated all of the drivers, I'm running updated Norton, have run Spybot S&D, haven't installed anything except a game for my kids. All of the SP2 patches have been installed, etc.

I can't think of what is causing this. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Just a guess. Assuming that your using a USB mouse, go to DM & look into the properties & advanced settings of each of your USB root Hubs & uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" (or something like that - Im using VISTA now so I cant pull up an XP view).
