Does Windows let you use a USB mouse as the primary pointing device (does it even load the USB drivers?) or do you need a PS/2 mouse to use on a fresh install?

I can't speak for XP but I know with WIN2000 PRO, you can use either. I have completely reinstalled 2000 several times using USB mouse.

USB drivers for the input devices are loaded during setup, so you should be good to go.

I recently installed xp pro with a wireless USB mouse. Worked fine during the setup and normal use later on with no driver issues whatsoever.
