Fresh install help

I am tring to install Win ME on an old computer for a friend. it keeps indicating that is having .CAB errors, and will not load. What is a .CAB error and how do I correct it? I have never come across this, and have no clue what it is.

If this is during the install it could be a corrupt cd.

If it is during bootup after the install it could be a bad install which could mean a bad cd.

I have tried it with a win 98 CD and with a Win ME CD, and I get the same response with both. During install it gives me .CAB errors. I am at a loss since the machine was working before.

try a different cdrom drive and/or cable.

Correct - Bad CD's or CD drive has a problem. If they are CD copies, some cd drives 32x and slower will have a problem reading them.
