I found a bunch of fresh holes in my FL. Maple tree, I do see a woodpecker not sure what kind I have looked for the last 30 mins for the same bird it has a beigh colored chest brown/black fuzzy head. It has a big hole at top of tree, with almost a 6-8 inch hole. Lower part of tree has very fresh holes all over big hole small holes. Any help would be great. Thank you20200602_185343.jpg

Crotch rot.

Get that nasty parasitic crap out of there immediately.

Holy smokes, how could anyone let that go on like that?

It may well be too late for the tree.

Well the damage is on the backside of the tree in the corner of my yard that I don't go to really (lawn people never said anything either. And there is a little thing called work that I do, and do alot of so it was not my intention to allow it get "crotch rot". I'm hoping it is only in the 1 of three trunks. Thank you for your help and concern

My statement "Holy smokes, how could anyone let that go on like that?" was in no way meant to imply negligence on your part; obviously you care about your property.

I just can't believe anyone (previous owner, lawn guy, etc.) who may have seen it would not have informed you immediately.

One other thing; It may be a Silver Maple, in which case your property would be better off without it anyway. They like to drop branches onto homes and cars.
