As much as I don't like smokers and as jealous as I am that they get more breaks. I do think that sounds like BS, if it's not a reprimand, don't worry about it.

how is 2 or 3 separate 5 minute breaks in the same period you take one 15 minute break more?

The past three jobs i have had, they take the same breaks i (and other nonsmokers) do on top of their smoke break.

At a recent job, I used to joke that I was going to take up smoking at 25yo. All of the managers smoked, and the non-managers who smoked were all promoted extremely quickly.

It wasn't a coincidence. It was a large help desk, and promotions had a lot to do with if the managers noticed and liked you. Going out and smoking with them caused them to learn who you were and in most cases, start liking you. In case you think i'm being bitter, i also got regular promotions, but I did it by being demonstrably better at my job than almost everyone else.

So you have to smell something unpleasant for a few seconds as someone walks by. Cry me a fricken river. I hope you never fart in your cubicle.

I guess it depends on the nature of the job.

it sucked at my last job... I worked as a CS rep on the phone. once an hour, 3/4 of the department would get up and go outside to take a smoke break, leaving everyone else to deal with the increased workload while they were gone, and the manager refused to do anything about it since she was a smoker herself.

I really don't see this as being overly whiny. It's not really THAT big an issue, but for non-smokers, the smell of a smoker coming in immediately after having a cigarette is pretty disgusting. Hell, even my smoking friends hate the way other smokers smell.

Your fellow Employees probably think you are slacking because of your frequent smoke breaks. Management probably doesn't care if you are getting your work done, but your fellow Employees probably don't realize that's not an issue. I dunno though. :shrug;

At school there were people who would cough when someone lit a smoke across the courtyard and would comment on how disgusting the habit was. 50 yards away in an open public space, no way it was bugging you the instant the person light up.

I imagine these are the same people who believe if you smoked within two days you're tainted and should wear a scarlet letter.... and complained to management about you.

If you get your job done on time and get the same pay whether you smoke or not I don't see how it's anyone's concern but yours.

And yes if you take proper precautions then no one will ever smell cigarette smoke on you. I've worked several jobs where it was MONTHS before anyone even knew I smoked and that was because someone saw me smoking on my lunch break or something, not because they smelled it on me.

You smell like ass after your smoke breaks (and probably before them too). And that has social implications.

If people are commenting about it because they think you are slacking off then just bring some papers with you on your break so it looks like you are reading something while you are smoking.

Even though I'm a a big anti smoker this does not bug me. Half of the guys in my former work group smoked. Most of the time when they were out smoking they were talking about work.

My coworkers smell very strong of the smoke. I cough a little when they come by heading to their desk...

I save my boss money by smoking. I'm hourly and take unpaid smoke breaks. When I hit one of those points in the day when I can't focus and would zone out like a non-smoker, I instead go off the clock and smoke. Plus, even when I'm smoking I usually end up checking my agendas on my Palm.

I'm more productive for less money :p
