Frequent lock ups with HL2

Ok, I have had no problems with HL2 running on my machine before. I recently tried installing the new 4.11 catalyst and couldn't get it to work with my laptop video card (9600 mobile) so I had to go back to my omega 4.10. Since then I've had problems running HL2. I can play for like 5 mins and then it will just lock up. I will then have to do a hard reset (turning the thing off and on) because I can't get out of the game. I don't get it, it ran fine before, I have a P4 3.2, 1gig pc3200, 60gig 7200rpm HD, radeon 9600 mobile graphics card; it's got to be the drivers. It could also be that I ran driver cleaner after installing the omega drivers when I realized the new catalyst wouldn't work. Maybe drivercleaner got rid of something i need? Anyways, it's about time for a format anyway, I don't really trust any type of cleaner except a format c:\ 😛 But before I do, anybody got any ideas?
 
Something updated when I started CS:Source. As far as I could tell that was it, updating source updates the game also? If that's the cuase then they suck, i was having problems with my sound and now this. Should've waited and bought it when the bugs were mostly fixed.

Any ideas how I can fix this?
