i've been using updated motherboard drivers, the newest ati or sapphire drivers for my system and it freezes when i run programs. it mostly happens when i run a couple of windows and also when i play games like starcraft. the system completely freezes and locks up. my specs look like this

Amd Athlon 2500+
Soltek SL-75FRN2
Vantec AeroCool
Crucial 256meg x2 PC2700
Sapphire Radeon 9700 non-pro 256meg
onboard sound
Kingwin 450watt PSU
WindowsXP Pro

i've got pretty good airflow and my temps are around upper 40 to low 50's. i've reformatted and the problem still persists. so it gotta be something w/ the hardware. does any one else have similar problems. i've checked a couple of other posts and some have dealt w/ poor power supplies, soundblaster soundcards but i pretty sure im running a decent psu and im not using any soundblasters. any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Gazziza

memtest your RAM. Seemingly random freezing and lockups are often atributed to a bad stick of RAM. You could also try to run just one stick at a time to see if errors go away with one stick or the other. Run memtest for a while, I usually do at least 9 hours (while I am at work), and keep in mind it may not catch errors, so it's still worthwhile to try one stick of RAM at a time.

i had the exact same problem, in my case, it was a bad motherboard.

-run memtest like EeyoreX said to see if there is any errors, if not then its not ur ram.
-be sure to have a good air flow in your case, heat may be a problem.
-be sure to have correct ide cables for your harddrive.
-other than that, the only things i can think of is a defective motherboard or a defective harddrive.

good luck!
