If it's new, it's still under warranty. Phone their toll free number and go through the dance to reach a live support person.

Sorry if you've had problems. OTOH, I've had many good experiences over several years with HP with my own machine and when helping friends with HP machines. The last time was just a few months ago.

Good luck. :)

See youtube video for example of what it does. It's a dual core i7 with 8 gigs of RAM and a GeForce 740M. It freezes at any time but especially when streaming video or playing (compatible) computer games.

What should I do? I hear HP support is terrible these days. Will it be hard for me to get a complete refund?

Hi.

Do you mean quad core?

Anyhow, don matter. Instead of posting here, I would accept, it's part of life, you may have made a Less Than choice and contact the vendor or HP and be nice, calm.... but tenacious re getting yr money back.

YOU.....deserve better. Including not to waste time trying to troubleshoot this symptom in a brand new computer.

it's a dual core i7 700 bucks.

Thanks for the clarification. If you are moved to try basic things which do not waste too much time and void yr warranty.....unless you choose otherwise---and u should do what is right for YOU--- I would send it back. When did this symptom first appear?

My take is, the lappy is very new. Is that right?

Pls share the model number of the lappy.

PS, on our way ou but found below. Sounds like a real indigenous issue, not even sure if this is yr lappy or not. But, it reiterated my original take re not to waste too much time.

When anything of this kind happens in a new computer, forget is a known issue.....well, I rest my case.

You din give the $700 to have to waste time wiith this. Forget, early on.

The fix is easy. Exercise your warranty just as Harvey says.

HP Pavilion 15-n048nr Notebook

I bought it in mid october but have barely used it. I've re-installed windows twice to fix the problem and it's unresolved. Problem first occurred from when I first bought the machine.

Aaron, this is about seeing viable, reasonable options in perspective. In this specific case, not about wasting more time and enduring more stress trying finding a fix. Many of us here agree: divest yourself of misery and future misery and see if you can RMA the thing.

While the similar crashing issues I found and linked you to were in an older model.....it would not surprise me if yours originated from a similar issue/flaw.

Not acceptable to start having this issue with a very decent computer right out of the box. No way should you have had to reinstall Windows even once.

Your lappy is so new, I can find no reviews yet online! and, the faster you start delving into returning it for a refund....just part of life---the better, the faster you will be free of this misery and the, you can make a better choice in a new lappy.

Don't let feeling overwhelmed---also part of life---stop you. You deserve better than this machine!

Unfortunately I doubt they will RMA it for a replacement laptop, more likely an engineer will have to fix what you have depending on how long you've been using it.

Why even waste time hazarding guesses? The as the crows goes aroute is to contact the vendor or the Mfg with underlying THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE quiet foundation. Action is required, not hazarding guesses. You determine to make something right....it gets made right.

You spend $700 on a band new computer (or less) you have REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS....

AND we should stand up by default when those normal expectations are abrogated. When you do, as long as it is with intelligence, kindness, tenacity, no rage, you get results. Rolling over does the opposite, it further erodes commerce and puts the power in the hands of business. and fosters helplessness and settling for garbage.

WE, the consumers, within the Capitalism model…. are posed to run the marketplace in this very way....among others!

I usually uninstall everything and reinstall the drivers on my own.. Usually directly from manufacturers.. Like amd, intel, realtek, synaptics, etc.

But you are talking about computers you have had for a while Remember, this issue presented from the Get/OUT OF THE BOX....in a brand new laptop.

That is the fact which trumps.

They may very well have newer drivers on the website though.

The problem I see here is that it is a brand new laptop out of the box. If it freezes like this before any additional software is installed, you have a problem. Obviously every one of these models they are selling does not have this issue.

If you can't RMA, at least call/get online with their tech support. You won't be without the machine, and they may point out something you haven't thought of.

Have you run the diagnostics? You should have some in the boot menu. I think it's F2 for the HP's when you first power on.

Some really wise suggestions here. But, if it is a new HP laptop, it is at least under a 1 year warranty. Exercise that warranty and demand repair or replace from HP. Shift into attack mode but do so pleasantly, i.e., a steel fist in a velvet glove.

To be completely redundant because the right answer is the right answer...
