frequent explorer.exe crashes

Lately I have been experiencing a lot of explorer.exe crashes when i'm browsing files through my computer. Typically it happens when i'm in a directory that contains larger files such as videos. My event log is showing the following errors:

Hanging application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x028e3206.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all latest updates. Ran an up to date virus and spyware check and it's clean.

Any idea what this could be? Could it be a ram issue?
