Frequent "Cannot Find Server" with Netgear WGR614 v6

Hi,
I bought a used Netgear WGR614 v6 a few weeks ago and I've been running into some problems with it. I frequently get the message from Safari that it cannot find the server but my chat client (Adium) never lists that I was disconnected from the internet. Often when web pages do load the pictures don't come in or it needs to be reloaded at least twice. The same problem happens on my Samsung Epic.

It's got a cheap RCA Comcast provided modem running into it and there's an XBox 360 connected to the 1st port. It's set to channel 11 and according to Wifi Analyzer it's the most free channel I've got. I use WPA and the firmware is the latest version.

When I've run the modem directly to the computer it's rarely a problem and I don't run into the problem as much on the 360.

Before this router I had an Airport Express that had occasional disconnects from the internet but eventually died. It would not ever list that it was connected to the internet. After that I used a Linksys with DDWRT and that too died after a few days. The power light is blinking and all the port lights are lit.

Thanks for any help!
Andrew

Your DNS server is probably timing out. This isn't surprising, as a lot of home routers have DNS cache functionality, and it's usually not very robust. The fact that your chat application continues to function while you experience "connectivity" issues also points to a DNS issue.

In your network adapter settings, manually assign these DNS servers, and see if the problem disappears:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

(They're Google's public DNS servers, in case you're wondering)

I was searching for a problem I'm having and found your post. I also have comcast and have recently been having problems. I'm starting to suspect comcast. For the past few days I've not been able to get to the following two site, among others:

www.holidayinn.com
www.skype.com

I get the errror "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I've tried this on a 3 different system running :Vista 64-bit, Win 7 on laptop and kubuntu 10.10. With linux it give me a screen with a yellow exclamaion mark and says to check the spelling of the url. All come back almost instantly, no waiting like it could not find the site. I also tried pinging the sites and get a message that ping could not find the host. Ping does work on other sites.

I've also had problem recently with sites being unformated. They will have a list of links rather than formatted graphics. www.comcast.net is doing that today.

Any other comcast users having problems. I am in Gwinnett Co, GA, an Atlanta suburb.
