I'm looking for a french version of XP or 98. The computer is a PII with 64MB SDRAM. should I even bother trying XP or go straight to 98? And what's the likelyhood of finding a french version?

Cant help you with the French version you're after , but I wouldn't bother with XP on a PII with only 64mb RAM.

Win 98 is the way to go with those specs, unless you can get some more RAM for XP (256mb min IMO)
and anything below a 350mhz cpu is really not going to run XP that well.

98 will run fine on it though.

Look in France or Canada, you shouldnt have that hard of a time finding a French version of Windows.

I would also agree with Canterwood that you are going to need more RAM if you want to run XP, if you are going to be doing really simple stuff (like web-browsing) 128MB would be enough, however if you are going to do much more I would reccomend 256+. A 350mhz P2 should run XP fine (again for the basic type of stuff) but we dont know what kind of P2 he has so I would reccomend this, if your P2 is at least 300Mhz you should be in the clear. In any case 98 would run just fine.

You'll probably have to buy it in a French speaking country. To the best of my knowledge, MSFT doesn't sell localized products in other markets.

Either that or get MSDN subscription which has all language versions... but then you have to live by their licensing terms for testing/development use only.
