French Cuffs

So yesterday I went out shopping for some clothes, actually went to get a sweater but I didn't end up buying any....anyway...

I went to Banana Republic and found a shirt that I liked, and a tie that went well with it. Both for casual nights out to the bar, and to wear at work. Big sale, good stuff. Anyway, I guess I didn't pay much attention when buying it cause I see now that they are apparently what people call French Cuffs. I've never had a french cuff shirt, and I hear they are suppose to be only worn in fancy occasions. I do have some cufflinks that I got at a wedding a few months ago, so I could actually use them....and I think the shirt still looks good...Just wondering what popular opinion on this wa
anyway..thoughts?

I like french cuffs. It's classy.

You don't need the cufflinks unless you're wearing a suit.

Eh I tried it on, but I was in a hurry at that point. I was really just trying it on for fit...can always return it.

Trying it on for size and you didnt notice that the sleeve length was over 3" too long?

I wear french cuffs casually. Just fold them over, you dont "need" cufflinks.

i like French cuffs, they aren't too fancy for formal events, they just look nice. I wouldn't wear them for normal everyday events though.

I have one shirt with french cuffs, and I've found I can't wear it to work because it makes using a mouse awkward (having that flap under your wrist)

theyre nice , but reserved for formal occasions w/ a suit and most definitely w/ cufflinks. too tacky to wear them in any other occasions. make sure the cufflinks themselves arent too tacky - keep it to simple design, and the primary color to match other accessories (watch case, belt buckle, etc)

The fashion conscious will tell you that they're already out of style. Apparently, there was a huge surge of popularity after Brad Pitt wore them in Oceans 11 and it has since died down.

I love French cuffs and prefer to get shirts with them when I'm able. I think it's a misnomer to think that they are only for formal occasion - it's just a different style of clothing to take advantage of.

Too bad that doesn't really illustrate rolling them up or folding them over.

I prefer them over button cuffs. Bananna Republic has them, you say? It's hard to find them usually.

I say go for it, with the cuff links. There's nothing wrong with them, and it'll make you stand out. It's more about attitude than anything else. Take Johnny Depp for instance. He dresses like a complete hobo half the time, yet somehow it still looks good.

Went out last night and had the shirt on. One positive comment, and other than that, no one seemed to notice the cuffs.

Now I am just gonna have to test it out infront of my family. I know my dad is gonna make a comment of something like "Oh look at this guy with the french cuffs, big shot coming through"
