French Businesses Say U.S. Boycott Is Hurting Them

An American backlash against French products and businesses has started to bite, dashing hopes here that appeals in the United States to punish France economically for opposing the war in Iraq would go unheeded.

American importers of French wine are reporting sharp drops in sales in the past two months, and other French products also have been affected. The Federation of Wine Exporters has called a meeting Thursday to discuss how to respond.

Worth the read.

Gee, I wonder if they expected American consumers to ignore the fact that they were actively working against us on the world stage. Silly French.

I am leaving all the French wine and Evian water on the shelf for Janeane Garafolo. She's rich, so she can pick up the slack.

I will never ever, for the rest of my life, knowingly purchase anything from France.

Dont' give up the french toast. That stuff is good. Plus, when you eat it, it does not benefit the French in any way. However, I agree with the rest of your boycott.

Yeah add knowingly. Because you probably already have and probably use products from French companies every day.

One of the worlds largest movie publishers
One of the largest book publishers
One of the largest game publishers

Thats just one company. VU. Its one of the worlds largest companies. Although going through tought times.

In all honesty boycotting french products does nothing, the products we buy from france amount to chump change compared to our tourism to France. I have no problem buying "french" products because most of them are made in the USA, by american workers. It might put a small dent in some french company but it would hurt everyday americans worse.

The only thing I'll miss is Michelin tires at Costco... anyone have any suggestions on a replacement? Are Goodyear any good?

Go with BF Goodrich. They are fine tires.

Boycotting French wine is a good target (that is what I am doing right now). The wine industry has a fair amount of political power in france. Hurting them will put pressure on the French government.

They're losing sales of about 30-50 bottles for my household (we buy a lot of Burgundy). I know quite a few others who are boycotting their wine as well.

I've been buying more Italian and Spanish wine instead.

Ditto. I was doing some research and discovered that France gets a 2% kickback from the bread, sugar, and egg companies when a person makes French toast.

I still have a couple bottles of French wine that I'll just go ahead and drink since pouring them out would be a crime against nature (I bought them before this whole mess). I have, however, moved toward Italian, Australian, and Spanish wines. My local wine store carries quite a few Italian choices and recently received a large shipment of Australian. One of my favorites is the Shiraz/Cabernet blend.

I think just out of spite I'll go find some counterfeit French products and buy them the next time I go to Korea. ;)

I would feel so much better about myself if Microsoft, Adobe, Macromedia, Apple, and Symantec all moved their headquarters to France.

If your statement were true, in that it does not hurt France, then how do you explain the article?

So You Want to Boycott France? OK, Here Is The Master List!

Thanks for that! Goodyear or Cooper are brands that will also work just fine.

I'm serious. I'm not giving those fruity frogs another dime. :p

No argument here!

I really think, by bringing serious economic harm to France, this may actually make this world a safer place to live and do more for REAL human rights improvement in the third world than all of The UN resolutions combined. By realizing that their actions have economic consequences, perhaps they will think twice about whom they support.

And if I am wrong, it is still jolly good fun! :)
