Freezing troubles with CS:S and Flat Out

From old thread:
So CS:S and now Flat Out lock up randomly while I'm trying to play. The game just plain freezes, but no other game; hence I'm assuming its a driver problem.

What drivers have you all found to be 100% problem free? I've tried the latest NV & the latest XtremeG, to no avail.

Well I solved the Flat Out problem by installing the original game ;) However the funny part is that when I apply the official v1.1 patch (which applies by simply copying the main patched exe & two patch files into the program directory) it tells me I don't have the right CD-ROM in the drive :p LOL!!!

The CS:S problem is not fixed, on the 82.13 drivers I think. I'm gonna go back to the latest VXG's and see, I think those had the least/none crashes.

I tried those with FLat Out before I fixed it, but not CS:S.

I'm gonna try the latest VXG's tonight and if that doesn't fix CS:S I'm just gonna reformat before spending more time switching drivers. Windows is doing a few other wacky things too :p

There's a chance it's your antivirus software thats causing a problem or TuneXP, if you use it.

That's what it was for me at least...

Don't use TuneXP. I use NOD32 for virus, but if that was it then I should see the same problem in other games yes?

I'm glad to see BS hasn't turned up to troll here too ;)

That's not a bad idea either. After I get a review posted here, I'm going to switch to the latest XG drivers which I think helped. If it persists still, I'm gonna reformat anyway. Windoze is actin' kinda weird in general

No, with Antivir I experienced it in some games...HL2 worked fine, but FEAR didn't. Halo didn't work either...and a few others. Some worked though.

That's my only advice really. If you're looking for driver advice, I'd try the 81.98 xg drivers.

Yeah, steam + CS:S is a wacky combination that I have found sh!ts out on a occassion. Usually the only way to resolve the issue is to reinstall windows. Sounds crazy, but in a dorm full of guys playing, we all had our chance to fix steam/CS:S and we all failed. That is one of the main reasons I have my OS on its own partition and pretty much a dedicated gaming box. Staying up on drivers/hardware/games takes its toll on windows :p

I'm having a problem with CS:S as well the game just freezes.

Used to work fine for a long period of time then for some reason any video I used to play after a game used to have a pink shade to it. I had a similar problem before so I simply updated my drivers. Game started freezing and video worked fine tried about 6 different drivers so far and the same problem. I am guessing that I have some leftover drivers, anyone got a good Nvidia cleaning utlity (I have an Nforce mobo so its not that simple....)

I assume you've used Driver Cleaner? If not, google, read instructions, and follow them to the T! Couldn't hurt to completely uninstall all drivers, run all NVIDIA cleaning filters, and reinstall all new drivers.

Ok so I tried the last 5 driver leaks currently I'm sitting on 82.10 heres the wierd thing I can play HL2 all day but 10 minutes of CS Source = guaranteed crash.

Any clues?

Try the 78.03

I know the Idea of going back to these non-80 drivers sucks but I have had nothing but problems with lockups in CSS and they even cause 3dmark05 to lock as well. This is even after trying a WHQL 80 series imeadiately after a fresh install. the one thing I would mention though is that I am running XP64 and therefore can't install the DC Hotfix from MS.

Thats topweasel no crashing but the performance with my 7800GTX has gone downhill :(

Guess I'll wait till Nvidia releases a few more drivers.
