Freezing SSD drives

After I purchased a new CPU/Mobo(Asrock Z87/4770K) set I also ordered also a new 120Gb M500 drive for my system disk.I always use a normal 2Tb HDD for my data disk. Installation went OK(UEFI mode) with Windows 8.1Pro as I have done about 50 times already on other setups/laptops and after installation I always use Tuneup Utilities, Now from AVG, to clean and check everything. SSD firmware is MU03. When Tuneup tried to defragment my HDD it already got stuck/freeze at a certain point. So I had to do hard reset. Later trying it again.....the same. Also having some webpages open and typing something in Word/Excell frooze the PC. I then used a M4/Samsung840Evo SSD to do the same task.....no problem. I then put the M500 disk in 2 other PC's..........same freezing. Other PC's were a Z77/3770K and FM2A85M/A10-6800. Both Asrock boards. But now comes the big surprise.....yesterday I got a new M500 960Gb SSD and for curiosity I installed Windows 8.1 on it too. No problems. Firmware MU02. I then upgraded to MU03 and bamm....same problems as the 120Gb drive.

Anyone?

Roll back the firm and wait for a update.
Crucial was always good with updating their firms to solve problems.
I rolled back the firm on one of three m4 until the 3rd crucial firm release which solved the problem.

Never update the firmware on a SSD until it's been out for a while and other people have had time to be the guinea pigs.

I started a thread there already, they're blaming the ASRock boards now😀 The MU02 seems to be the first flash so you cannot download/reflash it.

Thanks for that information, just getting ready to put together a new system with a M500 and an ASRock Z87 board. Don't know yet what firmware is on the M500 yet.

Problem now is that MU03 is supposed to address issues with Haswell. Might set it up with a different SSD, I have a Samsung 830 I might use.

Is there any way that you could make a special request of Crucial for the MU02 firmware?

Edit; Just read your thread at Crucial, looks like the older firmware is not available. Bummer.

I just use a Samsung 840EVO as the C drive now together with the M500 as D drive. No problems so far. Its sooooooooooooo nice not to have a mechanical diskdrive in your system🙂.
PS the ASRock boards are just great pieces of hardware. I use to have all the Asus boards before but the TD is awfull. ASRock is better in that regard....my experience.

If you search the older forms you should be able to find a working link for the MU02 firmware.
After I flashed my m4 crucial also removed the earlier firms from their list.

Updated mine to MU03, no problems.

You don't have an ASRock board😉 I mailed ASRock about it just now. I RMAed the drive to my supplier and he could not find a fault either.
U use GPT format and UEFI also, 64bit Windows 8.1?

On a 8.1 testmachine with M500 too, no issue.

You're right. Thanx. Just got conformation from the dealer's RMA dept. telling me they get the same problems now after testing it the same way. They will send me a Samsung 840EVO in return.
Maybe the SMART problem causes all this. They should have cured it with the MU03 firmware. My M500 960Gb(as D drive now) still shows a SMART error.
