Freezing: Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite

I helped a friend build a new computer, and he uses the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite. He's a hardcore gamer (UT2k4 🙂 ). Normally, this wireless setup works like a charm; however, in the heat of battle his keyboard fails to respond for a few seconds (sometimes, up to 30 seconds). His mouse becomes erratic as well. While he loves this setup in general, this freezing is obviously unacceptable!

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!

A few quick specs in case it helps: Athlon 64 3500, 6800 PCI-e, MSI nForce 4
 
never had anything like that...is his receiver positioned near a subwoofer or something....it might be casuing interference
