I have XP Pro and it freezes a lot for few seconds many times a day. It happens alot in games and when I am browsing. The program just stops and resumes in about 5-10 seconds. When I am browsing, alot of times I can still move my mouse around. Had anyone encountered this?

I think your problem is called Windows XP. It offers really no benefits over win2k professional, and just causes a lot of problems for just about everyone.. it hates modems, not big on sound cards, doesn't play well with IRC clients, etc... down with XP.

In your Device Manager, go under Computer, if it is set to ACPI you can try changing it to Standard Computer by double clicking on it, going to the driver tab, change driver, show all devices... and choose Standard Computer. This might fix the problem and it might not, but if you do change your computere to Standard computer, you will have to restard and reinstall all the drivers. This is not too big of a deal, but i had to warn you. Good Luck

Thank you for the suggestion, I figured out what ACPI does, how will turning this off help? I am just curious because I have never really thought of it.

Thanks again.

this happens to me sometimes too and I finally figured out what it was. SOmetimes a program calls on my cdrom drive for somethin even when it doesnt need anything from the. My drive has a pretty long load time so for a few seconds everything just stops while the cdrom spins up and reads the cd. then everything works fine again. Not sure if this is your probelm but chekc ur cd/dvd light next time it happens and see if its one. hope this helps.

So I would have to reinstall every driver like the soundcard, video card, and network card? I guess I can try it out.
