I'd never done it before; Cheese was on sale so we decided to get extra, girlfriend suggested freezing it.

The results were less than desired. She was like meh, but I was like umm.. lol

It made the cheese all crumbly and changed the texture a bit. Reminds me of cheese curds now.

Impossible to cut slices from now though, it just crumbles. Oh well.

Quite a few different cheeses last so long I'm not sure why you'd need to freeze. (In the fridge, I'm talking months unopened)

Try vacuum sealing it? I use a FoodSaver a lot, although I haven't tried cheese because I'm allergic to dairy.

Yeah. I actually thought about that while posting the thread.

This was bulk cheese though. Approximately alternator sized.

If you freeze it right, it will last a while in the freezer. I tend to buy sliced cheese and freeze it as it works out better than chunk cheese.

What kind of cheese?

Unless you bought a ridiculous amount of it (dare I mention a bulk amount?) then it should be fine for a while without needing to be frozen.

We got some Cheddar and some Colby Jack.

The cheddar crumbles if you look at it. The colby fared better.

I'm sorry, but freezing your live bulk cattle before it is even milked is just wrong.

I am actually quite warm right now, thanks to the Arizona Sun.

Thanks for asking!

You don't need to freeze it - it's preserved and already several months old when you get it. If it's good cheese that is. Just leave it unopened.

and if you open it to split it up, try to get it as air free and airtight as you can. ive left cheese for weeks in the fridge like that, it just ages more. medium cheddar will taste like sharp after 2 months.

We only freeze shredded cheese which is then used in casseroles / whatever and tastes fine.

Thats what I do...... I have had it in the bag for up to 6 months like that and the cheese is fine as long as you got a good seal.

Yeah, shred it if you are going to freeze it. Otherwise you can't slice OR shred it later.

We shred ours frozen and it works fine. But this is with good ole fashioned cheddar ( the jumbo ass pieces you get from sams club :) )

We once bought a jumbo pack of sliced american from Costco and froze most of it. It came in prewrapped "quads".

It actually worked pretty well. There was a little bit of sticking together of slices that resulted in some breaking when used, but not enough to be to concerned about.

Its probably the cheese type, I mean sharp chedder falls apart like crazy even in the fridge.
