Hi

I just finished installing my upgrade but for some reason everytime that I run a game (or 3dMark) my computer seems to crash, well, actually it freezes to the point of rendering the OS useless. Also, after that issue, sometimes, I restart it and same thing happens when loading windows, it just freezes. I am running the following configuration:

AMD 64 3500+
Thermaltake Silent Boost K8
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1Gb kit of OCZ Platinum Ed Rev.2 (located in DIMM1(Ch.A) and DIMM2 (Ch.B))
ATI RADEON 9800PRO 256Mbs
Windows XP SP2

Please, I need heeeeeelppppp 😕

Thanks

Welcome to the Forums 🙂 What brand and model of power supply are you using, and what memory voltage are you giving the RAM?

edit: also, if by "upgrade" you mean you just replaced the motherboard and all, and expected Windows to simply adopt the new hardware without a fuss... it generally don't work like that 😉

Here is what I got for my upgrade:

MoBo, Memory and CPU, I kept the other parts (which are in a perfect condition) I even decided not to install my Audigy2 anymore and use the Onboard sound (hard to decide but the Audigy loads a bunch of things that I might never use). I had XP before but the SP1.

Well, the power supply is from Alienware ("which I think is ANTEC -but their sticker won't let me know for sure) The settings are in [auto] now. but this is what I think I saw: Here is something that I've got from the bios. DDR400, Dual Channel, 128-bit, Memory Clock is 200Mhz, Tcl:2 Trcd:2 Tras:5 Trp:2 (1T Timing) HOWEVER, I tried NOT using the aggressive timimg from the BIOS and it seems to be stable (well, so far) but my benchmarks in 3dMark03 sucks, not to mention the ones in 3dMark05 (which are worst -of course the scoring is different but in comparison to others my system stink).... Oh well..... Ahhh, I forgot, I DID formatted my HDD just to be sure and I loaded the SP2 before adding aditional software.

here is what in the BIOS:

Current CPU Clock: 2211 Mhz
Current DDR Clock: 200Mhz

High performance: Manual
Aggressive Timing: Disabled
Dynamic Overclocking: Disabled
Spread Spectrum: Enabled
HT Frequency: 5x
Cool -n- Quiet: Disabled
Adjust CPU Ratio: Startup
Adjust CPU Freq: 200
Adjust AGP Freq: 66
Adjust CPU VID: 1.500v
CPU Voltage: By CPU VID
Memory Voltage: AUTO
AGP Voltage: 1.50V

What about system temps? Out of line temps can cause problems like you're having. If your mobo and cpu temps seem in line, don't dismiss your video card. Higher end cards frequently overheat if the case doesn't move air through it well. If you suspect vid card heat issues, a $5.00 pci slot exhaust fan located right below your vid card might make a difference.

Just to be clear:

1) After you installed all of the new hardware you formatted and reinstalled XP and SP2?
2) Now that you've slowed your memory timings your rig is stable?

I would swap out the DIMMs one at a time and try setting the memory timings back to automatic or default. See what happens when you run 3dmark with only one of them installed at a time.

Try that memory voltage at 2.7 to 2.7 volts. That's fancy-pants RAM and 2.5 volts (AUTO) might not be enough.
