Freezes while installing Nvidia drivers

I posted my previous problem here.

I wasn't able to fix it, and went ahead and reinstalled WindowsXP. Then when I attempted to install the drivers for my Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200, it froze with a black screen except for the mouse pointer and a small area around it.

I've reinstalled windows again, because I thought that I might have gotten multiple versions of the Nvidia drivers installed over eachother in a mess, but it still doesn't work. It also doesn't work in Win2k. However, with my old TNT2 Ultra, it works fine.

Do you think this is purely a unsolvable hardware problem and I should RMA it? Any suggestions?

I now have it hooked up to my CRT rathe than my Digital Flat Panel that it was hooked up to previously. Now instead of it freezing and giving me a black screen except for the pointer, it just freezes with the current screen.

Suggestions?? Anyone??

Try a different video card. It's also possible that the AGP slot has problems but it's unlikely.

thats pretty much the conclusion i've come to, but it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. As I said in my earlier thread, it started upon having to hit the reset switch after the computer froze. It particularly sucks because i just RMAed it. Oh well...
