Freezes During Online Gaming

I play the WoW on and off for years. 😛

I've never had trouble before. When I started up again recently I keep getting one to two second long pauses in the online action every few minutes or so, which is incredibly aggravating.

I can't figure out if the problem is between my computer and my wireless router, the cable modem, the ISP, or WoW's own servers. In game my ping times are usually decent (below 100).

How should I proceed?

Trial an error.

Use performance monitor to check to see if your cpu is spiking or hard drive access is occuring at same time as the freezes.

Try it out wired directly to router.

Try it out connected directly to cable modem.

Those are some first steps to try, doesn't matter what order. Do what is easier for you to try first.

sounds like it may be some part of the router doing something for its wireless broadcasts?

Wireless is inherently flaky, many things outside of your control from a wireless perspective can cause what the OP is describing.

I get this game problem with games as well. Wired it's fine but wireless makes it lag for a second and then goes fine but happens every 5min. Right now I'm trying different channels on my router and testing them out. You should try that out as well op. I set my router only to G so it won't have to switch between B just as a precautionary measure. Do you have other wireless networks around you???
