Freezer problems, the whole ice box is frozen solid (ie, one bigass chunk of ice) WHAT TO DO?!

I think the freezer door was left ajar overnight, and so things started to melt. But once the door was closed, whatever was melted was once again frozen. The only problem is the icebox. It's now one big, huge chunk of ice. And the box cannot be removed. What could we do? Salt?

I want to see a pic of that!

Anyways, you could go at it with a hairdryer, but that would probably take forever. Your best bet would be to find somewhere to put all the stuff in your fridge, or start eating, then unplug it and let it sit until the freezer has thawed.

Clean everything out....unplug....defrost....mop up lots of water....don't do it again.

Whatever you do, no salt or chippping or hot water. You'll likely ruin the icebox.

Pics?

Are you saying you can't open the freezer now? I don't know what you mean by "the box cannot be removed".

Can you pry any of it out to save it? It's not really gonna be any good if it's been frozen, thawed, frozen and thawed again? Time to make a really.....really....big batch of chili perhaps?

lol man this really needs a pic.

Sfest bet is just to let it thaw out by itself, but of course you're going to lose your meat and most other perishables. Make sure ot dry it thouroughly after its thawed out because you dont want it to mold.

Wait wait wait, i think all of you guys have the impression that EVERYTHING is frozen solid. The only thing frozen solid is the icebox, everything else is still gung-ho.

Don't you have a fridge as well? Turn down the temperature in the fridge, move the stuff from the freezer to the fridge so it doesn't defrost (or at least not at fast), then defrost and clean up the freezer.
