Freezer 4 Install Help

Ok so based off recommendation of some people here I bought the Arctic Cooling Freezer 4 for my intel 4 cpu. I'm sitting here trying to install it because i was like "its a fan how hard could it be". Well turns out i cannot get the little punk to clip on. It has two bars that go across and clip into the original retaining mount on the mobo. I get the sides without the thumb push tabs in and then i go for the push tab side as in the installation instructions. For the life of me those thumb tabs will just not clip. It's sad because supposedly its supposed to be easy.

Installation is a simple matter of hooking the bracket into Intel's retention mechanism and slipping the two clips into place. Some care must be taken to keep a similar amount of pressure on each clip in order to keep the heatsink level during installation, but once clipped on, it is quite secure. In fact, it may well be too secure. In our sample, an enormous amount of pressure was required to lock the clips into place. Our sample looks no diferent than any of the ones pictured at AC's website or in other reviews, so we suggest that installation is best done with the motherboard already installed in a case to prevent it from flexing too much.

I was afraid to apply too much pressure , but after awhile i was sooo frustrated. I started applying lots of strength but i could not get one side to actually stay clipped and the side opposite the fan to clip either. The thumb plate on the side opposite the fan seems flimsy on my unit and actually came off a few times but i was able to clip it back on. Anyway i'll have to try tomorrow cause im too tired now.

I'm beginning to wonder if the retaining mount on the motherboard is not exactly the standard one. I cannot get that damn thing to clip. I really don't know what other method to try aside from just bearing down on it.

Well i was able to get it installed. I have an Asus P4C800E-Deluxe and there is a heatsink on a chipset located near the cpu. This was getting in the way of one of the clips and so it had to be removed. After i removed it installing the fan wasn't too hard. I then modified two fins on the heatsink to allow it to be replaced back onto the board. The fan is quiet and I like it.

Glad you like it, Oinkage. Was probably me that recommended it. I have the Freezer 7 (For LGA775 sockets). Totally silent fan and wonderful cooling to boot!
