Freeware program that does basic batch image processing?

I want to lighten (fade) several picture files and I'm wondering if there's a freeware program that will do this for me. Thanks.
 
I've been using Irfanview actually for the past few years, but I thought it only does batch resizing and renaming.
 
imagemagick has command-line utils for a ton of image processing functions, not sure if there's a win32 port or not though.
