Freeware HDD Cleaner for Windows XP?

Gillbot

Lifer
Is there a freeware windows app that will allow me to safely wipe HDD's (via a USB cable) so I can assure they are clean?

When you say via a USB cable, I assume you mean that the drive is an external...

I know that in OS X, it is supported directly by Disk Utility.. however, something you can try is go to the drive manufacturer's website, they should have a utility there that you can use to zero the drive.

ok, well.. after you track down the manufacturer's website, you may want to hook that up over IDE directly to run the erasing program.

That's what I want to avoid really. I have quite a few i'd like to erase from various manufacturers and it's a pain to keep swapping them in and out of my case to get it done.

I have not, I'll check it out now.

I looked in the stickies in the software forums and it looks as though the old thread may have contained the utilities I was looking for. At this point, I'm open to ANY suggestions.

I may have to give it a try, not sure if i'm liking eraser all that well. Probably because i am unfamiliar with it.

Tiger saw with the Wood & Nails blades. Don't try to cut directly through the motor, go off to one side. Definitely wear eye protection.

😉

(well, it's secure...)
