Freerip troubles/ freerip alternatives

im on a friends machine using windows me and the newest freerip version (2.60, i believe)
after a few minutes i get an error about freerip "finding an error in freerip2.exe"

any suggestions as to what to do?
(the program says restart the machine but that hasnt really helped)

any other programs that work as well as this one?
