freemasonry was started in england, after a little bit or research, the year it was founded is unclear. i don't see what a freemason cannot be french?

There are French masons. They aren't recognized by a lot of the other groups around the world because they accept athiests, but they are there.

allright, this is how it went. about 8 months ago i was living in a pretty ghetto apt complex. One day me and my pal were walking around, and a couple black gangsta looking guys were just chillin by their car (the color of their skin is irrelevent, im just giving the details). In passing i said "sup" and from there we got into a conversation. One of the guys is wearing a jacket with a big square and compass on it. i recognized it as the masons symbol and asked him about being a mason.
they were incredibly rude, but my own pride kept me there talking to them. it's been 8 months so i cant remember everything they said, but here goes. They knew i was a christian, and started telling me how little i knew about jesus, god, the bible and what not. I asked him to tell me something i didnt know, to enlighten me with thier vast knowledge (i was being really sarcastic, because of how arrogent these asshats were acting). They began explaining to me about how the catholic church is a conspiriacy, taking away precious parts of the bible, clouding our understanding. They keep the removed parts in the vatican. I actually agreed w/ them on this part, i know that you'd have to be a fool to believe the bible is 100% intact. The hundreds of different translations of it are a testament to this. clarity edit: i agree that the bible may have faults in it, not necessarily that the catholic church is a conspiracy, or the parts taken out of the bible are in the vatican.
but then they started going into egyptology. The egyptions, they say, had more knowledge than anybody. The new testament tells the life of christ from his birth, nothing about his adolesence, then his ministry from the ages about 30-33. Where was he during all that time inbetween? well he was in egypt. This is a fact. i didnt dispute, but if i remember correctly, that knowledge jesus had gained in egypt was what they felt made him so special, not that he was a savior. The egyptions apperently understood God's plan, and their pyramids are clues to it. They kept saying "x marks the spot" well looking top down on a pyramid it looks like an x. i was like aight, whatever... then they explained to me that the constelation "Orion" forms a perfect X, and the star in the middle is Heaven... they sometimes reffered to it as a big "space ship" its EXACTLY 1500 miles x 1500 miles, and it is on its way to pick up those that will recognize God.
That brings up another point, God, in the old hebrew, they were telling me, is Elohim, which is a plural word. They believe in a council of God's... i think. again it has been 8 months. We talked about the name of God for seriously over an hour. I cant remember hardly anything they were saying. Their language, and demeanor discredited everything they were saying, plus they could hardly keep on a single topic, they were all over the board.
One thing i remember in particular, was we read Revelations ch 18, and they applied it to the world trade centers getting hit. It was kinda creepy the correlation between the two, but, they said that we should rejoice that the towers were brought down, because America is the wh0re of all the earth. Sept 11 actually brought them joy.
What was more annoying than anything was that throughout the entire conversation they kept ridiculing white people, accusing them of shutting them out. They felt cheated by society. They werent successful, because the white man wont let them be! <----THIS TYPE OF ATTITUDE REALLY PISSES ME OFF! i could hardly talk to them anymore. If they were going to act this ignorant, it wasnt worth my time.
CONCLUSION-- take it for what it's worth... I think i just found a couple thugs that feel like they joined a gang, and feel pretty cool about themselves. I have talked to another mason, about 2 years ago, and he was a great guy. He explained to me a little about what it's like living as a mason, being able to get help from other masons... but those two thugs... AGHH i know it shouldnt make me so mad, but i cant help it.
ps if you want to ask me a question about it, go ahead, thats just some of what i could remember off the top of my head. Maybe a question or two would jog my memory.

I can't speak about that experience you had, but I can tell you it's waaaaaay off base about Mason belief.
I've been around my Dad long enough to know something about Masonry. One, is being non-judgemental and doing away with dogma.
The reason it takes decades to correctly learn Masonry is that each year, they teach you subjects (akin to a really good university program). They make you reach your OWN conclusions. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND. They DO NOT espouse any way for you to think. You only learn thru discussion. 3 years with the Masons won't cut it.....it takes DECADES to evolve the MASON WAY of understanding things.
Eventually the teachings lead you into stripping away any prejudices or selfish ways of thinking and acting. Which is why Masons are so damn generous with thier money and time.
Also, this ain't a cult. LOL
That's ignorant for anyone to say that (most likely powerful/rich Church proponents). A cult dictates. Masons just present topics and your learn thru discussions. Since a good Lodge has PHds and other distinguished experts, each adds his knowledge to Lodge discussions to reach conclusions over time. Mason teachings NEVER push. But as in all things, there is only ONE truth, and eventually most reach it open-mindedly.
And I guarantee you that Masons never espouse alien conspiracies or God clues inside a pyramid or Jesus going to Egypt. If those guys were noob Masons, then they have quite a ways to go in Masonic teachings to change the errors of their thinking .....again, it takes decades to REALLY UNDERSTAND the Masonic message. Even 10 years doesn't cut it.........My Dad was in it for 40 years and he says you really don't get the full message until after 30 years when things start to tie together....YES, there's that much knowledge involved!

I read that Mason teachings want you to draw your own conclusion, but it's the whole "My god is your God" thing that I'm uncertain about...Do Masons believe ANYTHING about ancient egypt? I've read so much that they do believe in atlantis, lost races, the pyramids, ect...Nothing about spaceships...

The thing with the letters is just how they write stuff down without really writing it down. Masonic rites are supposed to be "secret" so they don't write them down. But that makes it hard to memorize your part of it. So as a compromise they only write the first letter of every word.
So imagine that the declaration of independance was actually a masonic text.

etc. You're supposed to know it well enough that if you slip up or get lost, the letters are all you need to find your place again.
My dad was an active freemason in Zambia, Africa where his boss was a grandmaster (70s - 80s). He rarely ever talks about it now, and since we were young my brother and I always begged him to show us the secret handshake, to this day, he still hasn't. I've seen his ceremonial apron thing its pretty funny looking, but yeah he seems to be secretive about it.

I just found out that "Transmutemini, Transmutemini de lapidibus mortuis in lapides vivos philosophicos" is from the Kabalah...For those wondering, the Kabalah is a Jewish mystery text...It's like a mystery cult inside Judaism..It speaks of a oneness with God..."Be ye changed, be ye changed from dead stone into living and life-giving stones"....Don't know what that means to Freemasons, but it's interesting that a mason wrote that at the end of his book...Shows a connection between Jewish mystery cults and Freemasonary...Hmm...
